The Monta Vista girls and boys varsity track teams combined to take second place out of 42 teams in the De Anza Track and Field Invitational on April 8, 2023!

The De Anza meet is a varsity event–other than a couple of relay races, everyone must compete as a  varsity athlete in varsity divisions.  Monta Vista moved several freshmen and sophomores into varsity competition and these athletes rose the the challenge!

Scoring came from athletes in many events:

  • Valerie Ayzenberg, Junior, 800m
  • Gillie Ross, Freshman, Shot
  • Clara Fan, Sophomore, Long Jump, Triple Jump, and High Jump
  • Denny Dong, Junior, 400m and 800m
  • Tanay Parikh, Sophomore, 3200m
  • Ethan Lu, Junior, 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles
  • Joseph Han, Freshman, High Jump
  • Darren Lin, Sophomore, Triple Jump
  • Agasthya Kothuri, Freshman, Triple Jump

Not a single one of the MVTF scoring athletes is a senior, and most scorers were freshmen or sophomores!  Every one of these athletes will return in 2024, and if they continue to improve along with their teammates, and maybe we convince some more soccer players, basketball players, wrestlers etc. to come run, jump and throw with us, we can take the top spot of the podium next year!

Personal records recorded at De Anza include:

  • Avani Kalari (66.69 in the 400m)
  • Ridhima Katare (2:45.04 in the 800m)
  • Margaux Francoeur (5:44.95 in the 1600m)
  • Gillie Ross (30’4″ in the shot, that is the best mark for any freshman thrower in CCS)
  • Fiona Russak (17’9″ in the shot)
  • Sean Basu (11.81 in the 100m)
  • Denny Dong (50.30 in the 400m, one of the top 10 marks in CCS so far this season)
  • Tanay Parikh (10:01.08 in the 3200m)
  • Bradley Delay (12:35.14 in the 3200m)
  • Ethan Lu (15.62 in the 110m hurdles (12th in CCS) and 60.77 in the 400m hurdles)
  • Max Ready (29’3″ in the shot)
  • Joseph Han (5’6″ in the high jump, that is a tie for the 4th best freshman mark in CCS)
  • Agasthya Kothuri (19’0″ for long and 40’5″ for triple jump; Agasthya is in the top 10 for all freshmen boys in CCS for both events)

Congratulations to everyone on the team!  Complete results have been posted.
