Thank you all for the wonderful turnout for the cross country parents’ meeting on Wednesday evening, August 26! My moments in front of all of you are so important in building community and support for our cross country program–our cross country family. We all have busy lives–I appreciate, and do not take for granted, the time you took to support your student-athletes.
A couple notes about funding and donations.
The budget cost of this season per athlete is $360, including buses to all three of the required Saturday invitationals, team t-shirts, entry fees to all meets, a uniform replacement fund (we are already having to place an order for additional uniforms–our team has grown!), and other costs. (This does NOT include the optional overnight trip to San Diego to compete at the Sundevil Invitational.) The budget is included in the slide deck below, slide 43. We hope that every family sees the value provided by our team and choses to donate in support of MVXC; last year, all but one family donated. All the coaches are so grateful for your support!
The donation can be made on line at the Monta Vista High School Webstore; there is a direct link to the store on the homepage. You can also write a check to Monta Vista ASB, but I do think the online donation should be simpler.
If you can’t donate, please contact me directly and let me know you are going to decline. I know this can feel awkward, but I need to know–I will begin to contact people directly who have not made a donation and have not contacted me to let me know they are not donating. I’m not contacting people to pester them–I follow up because I have found that there are many people who read this or listen to my talk, think “oh wow this is a great program, I want to support my child and their team,” and then when they get on their computer to donate there are five emails from work, a message from a grandmother who forgot her Instagram password, an alert that Arsenal bought a striker from PSG, all the while there is a daughter in your ear asking for a new pair of running shoes. So, I follow up with everyone, because most of the families intend to donate, but life distracts us from making that donation. Only a few families decline. I remind people as needed.
And a reminder–if your employer offers a donation match, you should be able to ask for a match through Benevity.
I’m about to head out to get set up for the Watermelon Run! (A tiny bit of your donation supports a dozen Watermelons.) Hopefully your student-athlete is going to have some interesting stories about our afternoon!
