Short attention span reading and writing for MVXC Week 10…

  • Week 10 started with a great workout…repeat Ks that showed athletes how far they travelled this season.
  • Being a great teammate became a theme of the week.  Anika nominated Sydney Stevens for racing inspiration at Crystal, Siran Gao earned grit recognition for encouraging Nick to climb to Garrods’ Gates for the first time, Ruhaan Shah earned a grit shirt for motivating his running partners for a pounding finish of their long run, and Raj nominated Aaron Lee for not only keeping him moving on a run when Raj wanted to stop, but  also inspiring Raj to tack on an extra half mile!  So many great, gritty team traits were demonstrated this week…it’s important to reach out and help our teammates when they need some help, and it’s also important to try to say “yes” when a teammate says c’mon, you can do this.  It’s easy to say “no, I can’t” or “don’t bug me”; it’s easy to run on by when someone is struggling and figure they will figure out, or think that you don’t want to be the pushy cheerleader type.   All through our lives, there are going to be times we need help…if we want to get that help when we need it, it’s also reasonable to be the helper when we can be the giver, too.   That creates a team, a society, an ecosystem where the people involve pull and push each other to new heights of achievement.  A great teammate will not let you quit on your worst day, and we can all be that teammate at some point. IMG_7890IMG_7908IMG_7919
  • Saturday morning saw a small but mighty group fire off a rousing Hopkins Special workout…the varsity girls’ group of Nikhita, Anika, Avani, Sydney and Nerea were particularly pushing and encouraging each other other during the tough but fun workout.  Bobby Van Allen liked the report he got from coach about the results!
  • Coming up is the second and final race for MVXC on Baylands…here is looking at a LOT of potential PRs!  Weather should be moderate.  Remember, you need to take care of your own transportation.  The meet sheet is posted!
  • No school on Monday, October 16…practice will be at 3pm.
  • Nice work, alumna Triya Roy, who scored for her Johns Hopkins Bluejays at the University of Virginia…right down the road from us, another MVXC alumna, Sylvana Northrop was scoring for the UC San Diego Tritons at the Santa Clara Invitational.
