Track & Field: First Practice Is January 31!

Athletes,

I hope you are as excited as your coaches for track practice to start!  Yes, our first practice is less than a week away–January 31, 2022, at 3:45pm we will meet in the grandstands at the Monta Vista track–scene of past and future glory!  We are excited to see our returning friends as well as new athletes.

A few reminders and some basic information for new athletes.

• At the bottom of this post is a list of all the athletes that have been cleared to join the track team.  If you are on the list–good job, you are ready to go on Monday, you don’t have to do anything else!  If you are not on this list, and you are not sure why, go see Mr. Bonacorsi or Javier Margarito and get yourself cleared.  You may not practice, and you are not on the team, until you are completely cleared, no exceptions.  How to get your clearance is detailed on the Matador site.
• Be dressed and ready to train on Day One.  Get good shoes (Running Revolution is a popular spot, and if you go there ask for a Monta Vista discount; A Runners’ Mind is another option).  Shorts, shirts…whatever is comfortable will work.  Make sure you have good shoes, everything else is flexible.
• Track and Field welcomes athletes from other sports!  Track is great preparation and offseason training for almost every other sport:  Football, soccer, volleyball…there are so many sports where track can help you to the next level.  Track and field is the mother of all sports!  
• Our schedule is on-line (remember, this can change, due to the pandemic or other random reasons).

And…

Check this out…recent Monta Vista track and field alumna Zoë Wang is competing in college!  Zoë was the top scorer for Middlebury in the Winterfell indoor invitational.  Go Zoē!  (Yes, that is Monta Vista’s own Zoë on the Middlebury College track and field home page).  Sammi Dunn is also competing in indoor track for the University of Chicago.  Don’t think that college athletics is out of reach, the student next to you while you are warming up at MV could be in college next year…or that could be you!
