MV Almost Pulls of Quad-Triple Crown

This week, Monta Vista faced off against Cupertino, Fremont, and MacDonald in a triple dual meet. That means that the meet was scored as multiple different dual meets all at once rather than each team versus all teams – hopefully that makes sense! Here’s how things shook out: all four divisions beat Cupertino, all but JVG beat MacDonald (MacDonald didn’t have VG athletes, so that doesn’t really count), and Varsity boys plus both JV teams beat Fremont! So Varsity and JV boys were both 3 for 3, and Varsity and JV girls were both 2 for 3 – pretty awesome day if you ask me!

Girls Performance

The Varsity girls were led by event winners Katie Lee in the 100m, Dylan Hwang in the long jump, Lelani Laruelle in the high jump, Clara Fan in the triple jump, and Alice Ross in both the shot put and discus throw! Note that these are winners against all schools. In the JV competition, Felicity Ho was our only event winner as she won the 400m. There were many great performances that contributed to our team’s success on the girls side – great job ladies!

Boys Performance

The Varsity boys were led by event winners Tanay Parikh in the 1600m and 800m, Denny Dong in the 400m and 200m, Manas Kottakota in the 300m H, Agasthya Kothuri in the triple jump, Ryan Shen in the high jump and long jump, and a very exciting 4x400m relay made up Kottakota, Ethan Lu, Kothuri, and Dong. Again, these are people who won overall, against all schools. On the JV side, Alex Frefel won the 65m and 300m H, Ivan Shilakhov won the 400m, Dayo Davies took the triple jump and high jump, and Eddie Fan was victorious in both the shot put and discus throw. Awesome work guys!

Honoring our Seniors

As the title suggests, we honored our seniors last night as this was their last home dual meet. Senior nights are always bittersweet – bitter because as a senior you are beginning to realize that high school track is coming to an end (and also high school is coming to an end), also bitter as coaches and teammates because you know that next year you’ll have to carry on without these awesome people who’ve been around since you’ve probably been around. The sweet part though, is looking back on impact these seniors have had on the team. It’s remembering the accomplishments, the improvement over time, the friendships that may have otherwise not formed, the very very weird conversations and situations that you find yourself in as a high schooler – that’s the stuff you won’t forget!

It’s not goodbye yet, but a HUGE THANK YOU to all of our seniors.

Next Up

Monta Vista Track & Field is in action next at the Last Chance Invite on Saturday, April 13th. After that, we have a week of Spring Break with the CCS Top 8 meet on April 20th – that meet will only feature athletes who are in the top 16 in CCS in their respective events (I know, the name of the meet no longer matches what the meet actually is). The week after Spring Break is our biggest week of the year – League Championships! The League Trials will be on Wednesday, April 24th with League Finals on the following Friday, April 26th. Please reference the schedule page so you don’t have to remember all of these dates!

82 PRs total!

This is what we want to see! Heading into the championship season we want everyone hitting their peak and this below shows that we’re doing that. It’s critical now that we take care of our bodies and maintain for the next 2 weeks. Get plenty of sleep, eat well, meditate, focus at practice and we’ll see even more PRs at Leagues.
