Motivated by a season opening race at Lagoon Valley, MVXC athletes got up early on Labor Day to get up on top of Fremont Older and hit the hills!

A holiday gives us the opportunity to get out early before the weather is too warm.  The coming week looks fairly toasty with 80 to 90 degrees forecast after school, so getting up and running in 60 degree weather feels a LOT better.  And by 9am we are back at school, our workout behind us, and we are wide awake and ready to enjoy the holiday–or hit the homework if we have been procrastinating 🙂

After three weeks of running Linda Vista Hill and Matt’s Hill in the afternoon heat, it felt quite different to run the same repeats in the coolness of the morning.  Coach was a bit concerned with how the athletes would feel with only 48 hours having past since our first race of the year, but the team generally went after the hills with a lot of vigor and determination!  Coach really enjoyed watching one athlete who was disappointed with the finish of the race at Lagoon Valley, sulked a bit on Sunday, and woke up mad and ready to attack the hill…and asked to PLEASE run an extra repeat…and took three friends along…and were the last ones off the hill at the end of the workout!  Motivated, determined athletes like this one can be truly inspirational–and that inspiration shows when others follow along.  Seeing positive team dynamics, with teammates inspiring each other to push a little harder and work a little more, with smiles on faces, is fun to watch!

Well done, team!

We hope everyone had a great holiday…see you at practice!
