The first day of cross-country practice will be here sooner than you think!  Here is your guide for how to be ready on Day One.

  1. Make an appointment to get your annual sports physical! Ask your parents, nicely, to schedule a physical for you in JUNE because appointments will fill up in July, when school is about to start. Plan B: You can also go to CVS or a walk-in/urgent care clinic if you wait too long and can’t get an appoint with your doctor…but that may not be covered by your insurance. Don’t procrastinate, schedule your physical right now! NOW!

  2. Now that you have that out of the way, go to Matador Athletics and follow the instructions on the on-line forms.  Forward this link to your parents so they can fill out their part. You may have to take the baseline test more than once so I suggest you do that right away.

  3. Take the concussion baseline test and have your parents complete the forms.

  4. When you have everything completed, I suggest emailing Mr. Bonacorsi at nick_bonacorsi@fuhsd.org and say “I’m Kate, I am planning to join the cross country team in the fall, I think I have filled out all the athletic clearance forms correctly and uploaded everything, as well as completed the concussion baseline test.  Please let me know if I am cleared or if there is something I missed.”

That’s it!

(Hey, did you schedule your physical yet?)

PS: Everything above is paperwork. That is not so fun. There are some more fun things you should also do before that first day of practice that are, I think, more fun! You also will want to get some new shoes, and get some running in before that first practice. From Monday through Saturday, there are athletes meeting for summer running at 7am on the Monta Vista track. We want you! Watch this space for some shoe suggestions.
