UPDATE SUNDAY MAY 4

Heat sheets/entries are now posted on the Lynbrook site.  Find your name here, and you can match your race to the schedule on the meet sheet or on line here.   All you have to do is know when you are racing, pay attention to the meet in case it runs off schedule, and get to Wilcox and be ready to race!  (Usually one or two people miss their race each year…don’t be that guy!).

And as always…cheer on your teammates when you are not racing, please come to support your teammates on finals day even if you are not competing, and don’t forget to thank the judge of your event and at least one volunteer!

Original post follows:

Team and Track Family,

League Finals is coming up!  It’s time for you to leave it all on the track.  This will be the final event of the year for most of us; for some of us, our final high school track meet.  Poignant and exciting, both!

There is a meet sheet attached below which should answer most of your questions.   I hope to see you all there — even if you did not qualify for Leagues, you can still come and support your teammates (even if you were not starting for the soccer team you still would still be at the league championship match, wouldn’t you?).   If you are asking for PE credit, and you are not competing, you must come and help with the high jump officiating on both days (helping with HJ or hurdles was also announced at practice every day this week).

Please pay attention to the progress of the meet and listen to all announcements.  You will not need the ‘code numbers’ we are done with those but runners will be issued hip numbers.  Pay attention and make sure you check in, get hipped, etc.  Don’t miss your event after you have worked to get here!

Note that the meet is starting later than last year, to allow for AP testing this week (also this will help us beat the heat, which is sweet) (and yes that rhyme is on purpose 🙂 ).  I have given early releases to the field eventers on the day they are competing–the list is below–but I think that the rest of you will be fine at normal release.  HOWEVER if anyone in an early race feels like they need to get out a little bit early to be sure they are at the meet in plenty of time, please let me now and I’ll get you on the early release list, too.

The jewelry rule will be in effect:  You may wear a watch, but no other bracelet, necklace, earrings…you can where a medic alert or religious medal but it must be taped to your body.  Prescription glasses only no nonprescription sunglasses are allowed.

Please stay in the stands, or the warm up area, do NOT come inside the track oval until it is almost time for your event.  You can come to the middle and do some last strides but that is it.  I’ll get there early to set up the canopy for us.

Don’t forget to bring a water bottle, it will be warm and water is hard to come by on tracks, don’t ask me why!

Get a good nights’ sleep every night this week–not only will this help your running, but at this point being rested will probably help you in your AP tests more than another couple hours of cramming!  Seriously, you’ve been studying for a year, you know this stuff, OK???  Eat healthy foods and be fueled!

And always remember…thank at least one volunteer at the meet, and especially thank the judge of your event after you are done, no matter how you do.  Putting on a meet like this is a lot of work and we could not do this without a lot of volunteers.  It costs us zero to say thank you, and earns amazing karma-points!

If you have any questions, please see your coach right away!

Good luck, let’s go set some PRs!
