As I was running my own workout this morning, I was thinking about Rochelle…there were three things about this article that struck me:

  • Overall, Rochelle had challenges in her life–not just running–that most of us can’t even imagine.  Most people never face what Rochelle had to growing up.  She was so lucky to have a few people step up to help her.
  • Rochelle could easily have quit running, many times.  Her success came late in her career.  It would have been easily to drop out of running…when success was just around the corner.  Rochelle hung in there and kept working.
  • And on a detailed level…look at the credit that Rochelle gives to nutrition, and finding out her iron levels were low, to finding a whole new level of performance (and feeling better and enjoying running more).  We talk about nutrition a lot, we talk about getting your blood tested, here is another example of why I harp on these issues.

I was lucky enough to meet Rochelle briefly when she was at Stanford this spring, when she was here running in the Payton Jordan invitational.  I thought she was really great.  Reading this article, I’m so happy for every good thing that has happened to her; Rochelle deserves some good fortune.

I hope you enjoy this article…I did!
