We have posted the schedule for the Top 8 meet on April 22, annotated with Monta Vista’s entries.  Call this our ‘meet sheet’.  Please take a look at this schedule…if you are competing at Top 8, please arrive at least 90 minutes prior to your event to give yourself plenty of time to park, get settled, warm up and race!  And you can always cheer on your teammates and watch some great track.

Arrive Early!  I can’t emphasize enough…parking at Los Gatos High School is almost always tough, and it will be worse this year with Top 8, a volley ball tournament, and construction in one parking lot.  Arrive Early!

Don’t forget to check in at the clerk of the course.  If you don’t check in, with 20 minutes before your race you will be scratched.  I don’t know if they will allow early check in–I think they do, which means you may be able to check in as soon as you arrive.  In any case, check in as early as you can so you can forget about that step and focus on your race prep.

Remember a few things that will help you:

  • Focus on your own race and race prep, don’t worry about other athletes and who is there and how fast they are or not.  You can’t effect what they will do.  All you can do is focus on being the best you can be.  And make sure your shoes are tied. 🙂
  • Be positive!  You earned your entry to Top 8, you belong on the track.  It is always a great day to race!
  • Say good luck to the people next to you before the race, and congratulate your competitors afterwards.
  • Say ‘thank you’ to at least one judge or volunteer–but why not thank three?  Saying thank you is not that hard.

Don’t forget your uniform, shoes and a dry shirt for after.  Have a good breakfast and lunch and eat appropriately for when you are competing (don’t be hungry, but don’t have a full stomach).  Bring food to eat afterwards–don’t be hungry.  And some money for a Top 8 meet t-shirt!

Even if you are not competing…what a great Saturday night at the track cheering on your teammates?  Hope to see you out there!
