We fell behind in posting our last two meets–but better late than never!

Monta Vista kicked off the league season in a double-dual meet against Fremont and Santa Clara on Thursday, March 15.  We had a beautiful afternoon to open our season and it was great to get out on our home track and compete!

Team results were an exact split overall:  The varsity girls split their results (we won vs. Santa Clara 65-60, pulling out the win on the very last event with a 4×400 relay win worth 5 points–thank-you Ava Zamani, Sanjna Bharadwaj, Sunny Shan and Kelly Bishop!), the JV girls reversed with a loss to SC and a win over Fremont, and while the varsity boys lost both meets the frosh-soph boys got revenge with two wins, beating both Santa Clara and Fremont!

And before we go any further…thank you to the 22 parents and teachers who volunteered to help make the meet run so smoothly!  We completed the meet three hours after the start, always a good goal, and were complemented by both Fremont and SC coaches.

On Saturday, we traveled up the peninsula to the St. Francis Carnival, always a fun meet for us.  This year we had another good showing with plenty of PRs, although frustratingly Monta Vista had several 4th place finishes–just off the podium 🙁

Over the two meets, we had quite a few PRs–excellent showings for so early in the season.  Some of the PRs include:

–Sai Ranganathan with a 12.07 for a new 100m PR

–Ava Zamani also scored a new 100m PR with a  13.72

–Connor Sullivan had a new PR in the 200m

–Rohan Choudhury recorded a 2:07.62 in the 800m in our league meet, 5 seconds under his best from last year

–Max Sawyer had a very nice mile PR at St. Francis of 4:46.91

–Bridget Gottlieb’s 5:25.76 mile at St. Francis was almost 20 seconds under her time at St. Francis last year

–Donald Swen’s 17.63 in the hurdles at St. Francis was a half-second PR, a great jump for early season

–Hurdler Albert Han also scored a PR in the 300h in our league meet

–Kiersten Chuc threw the shot 28’10.5″ at St Francis for a new PR (Kiersten and Emma Seyer took most of the VG throwing points in our league meets, too)

–Sophomore thrower Namir Hassan also had a new shot PR at St Francis

–Sophomore high jumper James Migdal cleared 5’10” for the first time in competition–and almost made it over 6′!

I apologize for everyone I missed who should be on this list!

Complete dual meet results are available here for Santa Clara and for Fremont, and here for St. Francis.

Sorry for no photos–I got a bit tied up with meet management this week!

See you on Thursday at Monta Vista for our next dual meet against Homestead.
