MVTF16 has logged our first week of training!  We had a really good week of training with plenty of strides, core work and knocking some dust off the medicine balls.  This looks like a really fine group of athletes and we are all excited about the season!

For many of us, this is a week to start getting in shape–and for many of us, we are saying ‘next year I want to be a little better prepared!’  That is not a problem–everyone in their life at some point will re-learn the lesson that it is easier to stay in shape than get back in shape.  The important thing right now is that our athletes have such a positive attitude and are willing to put in the work–your coaches are proud of you.  Our biggest recommendation is to plan to continue to work out during the winter break–the absolute worst thing you can do is to use the break week as a rest week!  You will lose all the progress you have made working during weeks one and two, and many people come back frustrated and that is the end of their track careers–they give up.  You have the ability to compete at track, you just have to stick with it!

Things to do this weekend:

  1.  We have 68 people on the roster with everything complete…if you have not signed up on 8to18 yet, sign up right now so that you are on the roster! IMG_9706
  2. If you have not yet signed up for MV Boosters, please do that also!  MVAB is a great group and we could not fund our sport’s operations without this.  Two thirds of your donation goes directly to MVTF!IMG_9696
  3. Check out the MVTF training gear!  This is good gear for working out while also showing your team pride.  You must order the gear in the next week or so, then we will close the site to new orders while we print all this great looking gear…Screen Shot 2016-01-21 at 5.53.39 PM
  4. The start of the season is a good time to buy new training shoes.  Running Revolution, Athletic Performance, FitGeek, On Your Mark, and Zombie Runner should all offer high school team members a discount–tell them you are from Monta Vista.  Go to a running specialty store, not Big 5 or Sports Basement or places like that; if they are selling canoes, don’t buy any shoes.  Find a place that will fit you for the proper training shoe.  Tell the person at the shoe store that your coach recommends a basic trainer, as neutral as possible based on an evaluation of your stride, and do not get a minimalist shoe (and definitely no Nike Frees!).IMG_9714

MVTF is off to a wonderful start!  Let’s keep it rolling!  See you all on Monday…
