Seeing ‘Monta Vista’ up in lights at the Stanford Invitational is always kind of heart-stopping.  Appearing at the Stanford Invite is not the same kind of goal that the SCVAL Championships or the CCS Championships are–those meets are end of season championship meets that we target all season.  Yet, appearing at Stanford is really a treat.  We are reminded that high school track is on the same continuum as college and professional track; we see the college kids hanging out and getting ready (and getting nervous) just like us.  We get out and race on the same track where Molly Huddle and Emily Sisson will duel in a 10km. Being a track athlete is special–football, soccer, basketball, baseball players are not in the same tournaments as the pros.

On Friday, a Monta Vista distance medley team of Sylvana Northrop, Vivian Cheng, Jannah Sheriff and Triya Roy competed in the distance medley relay (1200-400-800-1600 legs).  All four girls competed hard; the team turned in a 13:05, a 15 second improvement from last year at Stanford, and three seconds faster than 2017.  All these girls will be returning next year, and we feel we have a good base to build upon for the future–maybe challenging some of our great teams from the past.  On Saturday, University of San Francisco-bound senior Evelyn How got on the track in the 100m.   Being part of that Stanford experience is special!

Complete results are on-line.

Next up for Monta Vista is our final 2019 league dual meet at Santa Clara on Wednesday, followed by a trip to the Quicksilver Invitational at Leland High School on Saturday.
