Hello MVTF!  A quick set of updates…

Serra:  On Saturday, April 15, more than a dozen Monta Vista athletes headed up to Serra for an invitational that often yields some PRs (the meet is late in the season when we are all pretty fit, and does not have the tactical considerations that championship meets have–Serra is a good place to let it rip!).  Sure enough, MVTF had nine PRs or SBs, lead by Eliot’s 51.81 PR in the boys’ 400m and Reema, Claire and Victoria all notching PR marks in the girls’ 400.  Nice job, everyone!

Complete results have been posted.

Boston 5k:  While MVTF was competing at Serra, coach was competing at the Boston Athletic Association 5k race.  Coach’s results were nothing special, but in the race there were two results of note.  Up front, Ben True set a new American record, winning with a stellar 13:20 mark!  Also in the race was MVTF alumna Jenny Xu, who graduated from Monta Vista in 2015 and is now attending MIT (and running for MIT, also).  Jenny ran a solid 18:20 time to take second place in her age group and 37th woman overall (including elite runners Molly Huddle, Buze Diriba of Ethiopia, Kalkidan Gezahegne of Bahrain and Marielle Hall of Rhode Island).  One of the great things about distance running is that you can get a chance to be in a race with elites–in what other sports can you be out on the same field at the same time in the same competition as an athlete setting an American record?  We have such a great sport.  And, Coach had a great time being in the same race as one of Monta Vista’s graduates!  So fun.

Monday Distance Workout:  Distance runners, I won’t be back on Monday; your workout is downloadable below.  See you on Tuesday!

Coming up:  There are no dual meets this week, our last dual meet will be Tuesday the 25th of April when we host Wilcox.  We have entered a record number of MVTF athletes in this Saturday’s Top 8 meet and we should hear later this week who has been accepted.  This week will be a great workout week as we push towards season end, and with good fortune, a nice collection of PRs!

I hope you had a great break week. See you all soon!
