Team this is just a quick post to tell you–you are doing great!

Well, hopefully we don’t have to really tell you; hopefully we just are reminding you that you are making terrific progress this year.  Our second SCVAL meet at Crystal Springs really showed off how fit you are.

Remember that we ‘trained through’ this meet; on the day before our meet, you probably ran Up and Over or you ran a longish run on the RR tracks.  These are not the runs you are going to do before big meets later in the year, these are training runs you are doing so that you can have big performances at meets later in the year.  Many of you had raced just a few days earlier at Nike/De La Salle (and got wet and cold, too).  So the way you looked at SCVAL was doubly impressive.

Even with all this work, lots of runners made big improvements since SCVAL1, for example:  Ismael ran an 18:59, almost 2 minutes faster than a couple weeks ago; Michael Trinh ran a 19:01 which was not only a 1:44 improvement over last time but also a career PR; Norman ran a 19:56 which was the first time he got under 20; and Conner Sullivan ran a 21:16 which was a PR and more than a minute faster than last time.  Our fastest five boys (Rohan, Zach, Brent, Emilio and John) all dropped at least a half minute from two weeks before.  Among the girls, Sanjna and Harini both dropped more than 3 minutes and recorded PRs, while Isabel and Alice also sliced off a minute each.  Maddie and Bridget both notched fast PRs.

Impressively, the Varsity girls team was under the CCS automatic qualifier total by more than 8 minutes.

Team, we hope you are feeling great about yourselves.  There are going to be up days and down days at practice–we are training hard and you will feel flat now and then.  However, you can choose to be confident.  Remember all the progress you are making and shrug off the bad days, and keep working!  Be positive, and keep encouraging yourself and your teammates.  You are in the middle of a great season!

Complete results are up on Hank’s website.

Let’s go, Matadors!
