The SCVAL track & field championships are this Friday, May 10, with berths to the Central Coast Championship Meet on the line!  The top 6 SCVAL finishers in each event, plus any at-large qualifiers, will move on to the CCS Championships (at-large marks are available here; anyone achieving these marks at the SCVALs will move on to CCS regardless of their finishing place at SCVALs).

The SCVAL meet will be held this Friday at Los Gatos High School.  The time schedule for the meet is provided below.  Please plan on being at Los Gatos WELL BEFORE the scheduled time of your event; traffic and parking in Los Gatos on Fridays can be horrendous!

Please check the weather and dress appropriately!  You are responsible for your own transportation to and from Los Gatos High School.

Even if you are not competing, please come and cheer for your teammates!

HURDLE CREW:  Monta Vista will be in charge of the hurdles again this year.  Volunteering for the hurdle crew at SCVAL is actually a great opportunity!  Here is why you should volunteer for the hurdle crew:

1.  It’s fun, and it’s a chance for you to give back and volunteer for your sport!

2.  You get free admission to the meet (if you are not a competitor, there is an admission charge)!

3.  You can be on the infield, inside the oval, to watch the meet and cheer your teammates–when we get to the championship meet, not everyone is allowed inside, but you will have a badge that let’s you on the infield.  Flash that badge that says ‘hurdle crew’ when someone tries to kick you out!

Please sign up to volunteer!  We need 10-15 people.  I’m counting on some of you hurdlers to be there to help the others!

AFTER THE MEET:  When the meet is over, one tradition at SCVAL is to have an ‘open mile’–anyone who wants to (coaches, parents, sprinters, distance runners, your little brothers and sisters–everyone) is invited to jog or run a mile!  It’s a lot of fun, you should plan on doing this with us!

And after that…I want to start a new tradition.  I’m planning on having pizzas delivered to us, and anyone there can sit on the track or on the lawns out in front of LG (I have not figured out which will be best) and we can munch on a couple slices while we talk about the season!  Please let me know if you are going to be there at the end of the meet so I can do some planning, so we have enough for everyone.  I hope you will all come and cheer for your teammates, and stick around until the finish, so we can enjoy the evening together!
