I’ve been sadly behind on updating our news–but that’s not for lack of news!  Though it is late I’m going to try to catch us up briefly.

At the FUHSD Championships/Lynbrook on October 30, the Varsity girls defended their championship title and won for the fourth time in a row–the first time that has ever been done!  The JV girls also won their race, led by a 1-2-3 finish by freshman stars Akshara, Megan and Mizuki.  The varsity boys took a strong second place, led by Rohan Choudhury who ran an amazing finish–a great and hard fought race, very fun to watch!  All the results are at XCstats.

Monta Vista had a great day at the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League championships on November 4…out of 63 runners on the day, an astounding 55 of these runners improved from their last race!  These improvements were lead by Rochelle Tham who dropped more than 4 minutes in time from the first time she ran at Crystal!  All these improvements represented a lot of hard work, which showed in our results.  Both our varsity and junior varsity girls scored team victories with come-from-behind races that depended on our fifth runners; Monta Vista was behind after the fourth runner in both cases however Anna Hsiao and Isabelle Ju finished in front of their counterparts to secure the second straight varsity league championship and the fourth consecutive junior varsity championship!  The boys’ varsity team, led by Rohan’s 3o second PR and 3rd place finish, had the best boy’s team time in at least the last four years!  Both boys and girls teams have qualified* for the Central Coast Section Championships on November 15 at Toro Park in Salinas, racing at 10am and 10:30am.  We hope to see you there!

Complete results are at XCstats.  Photos are at Picasa.

*Fun note–our JV girls team time would have qualified our JV girls for the VARSITY CCS championships as an at-large qualifier if the rules let us enter two teams!  That is incredible team depth!  Congrats to the JV girls Namrata, Akshara, Mizuki, Salma, Isabelle, Megan, Sabrina and the rest.  These girls also set an ALL-TIME De Anza Championship meet record for the JV girls team time!  We see a future for you in Varsity!
