The Monta Vista Athletic Department hosted a ‘signing day’ for all Monta Vista athletes who are intending to compete in college on Thursday, May 29.  It was a really nice event and a chance to recognize our committed athletes!

One of the fun things about this year was that track & field and cross-country had more athletes heading to college than all the other sports at MV combined!  That’s a fairly amazing statistic and speaks to how many of our seniors love the sport, and are heading to some very fine colleges.  The list of athletes includes:

Kiersten Chuc — Thrower — Carnegie-Mellon University (not pictured)

Archit Dua — Distance/XC — University of California at Santa Cruz

Bridget Gottlieb — Distance/XC — Johns Hopkins University

Richelle Ju — High Jump — Smith College

Zach Patti — Distance/XC — Oberlin College

Anand Rao — Middle Distance/XC — University of California at Santa Cruz (not pictured)

Emma Seyer — Throws — De Anza College (not pictured)

Sunny Shan — Middle Distance/XC — Mt. Holyoke College

These athletes join Kevin Bishop, who is currently running at Stanford, and Pearl Law, running for the University of California at Irvine, in the college ranks, as well as Surafael Yared and Arvind Rao who walked on for the 2013 season at the University of Southern California and the University of California at San Diego.

Photos of the signing ceremony are on the team’s Picasa site and can be downloaded.

That evening was senior awards night, which was another great night for track and XC as our own Bridget Gottlieb was selected as Matador of the Year, given to the senior athlete who made the greatest contribution to Monta Vista athletics during their career, and Emma Seyer, selected as one of the eight outstanding senior athletes.  Congratulations to Emma and Bridget, these were well earned honors!

All in all, some great recognition to a wonderful class of seniors who we wish well in their college careers–and who we will miss when we come together next Fall to start our 2014-15 year!  There are going to be many college coaches and teams that will be very, very happy to have our seniors join them next year.
