The speedy Monta Vista girls not only found time for running 40-plus miles per week…they also hit the books and were selected to the Central Coast Section Scholastic Teams!

The Central Coast Section, a region that goes from San Francisco south past Monterey to King City, recognizes the top five Varsity cross country teams with the highest collective Grade Point Average of all cross country teams in the section. The Monta Vista varsity team–Julia Chang, Christina Jennings, Jenny Xu, Anna Hsiao, Namrata Subramanian, Madeleine Yip, Kelly Bishop and Paru Meyyappan–were selected as one of the teams honored.  One of the impressive parts of this achievement is that grades are submitted unweighted–there is no adjustment for AP courses, grades are compared as-is (and these young women are taking plenty of challenging AP courses!).

The Monta Vista girls are the only  girls’ cross country team to be an all-Scholastic team and also win a spot in the California State Cross Country Championships on November 29!  Yes, it IS possible to simultaneously train and excel in a varsity sport while being a top student at Monta Vista!  You can be dedicated to multiple goals at the same time!

Congratulations on your achievement, team, and good luck as you prepare for States!

The press release can be found on the CCS site.
