A tight race in the 65m hurdles.

Wednesday was an excellent day for the Monta Vista track & field team, highlighted by six trips to the top of the podium; including the results from Monday, those taking home gold were:

William Sheu Frosh-Soph Triple Jump
Sanjna Bharadwaj JV Girls High Jump
Julia Chang JV Girls 3200m run
Liam McNeil FS Boys 3200m run
Chatty Adiga FS Boys 400m run
FS Boys’ 4x400m Relay (Chatty Adiga, Sai Ranganathan, Pranav Srinivas, Rochish Ambati)
The 4x400m relay win was particularly thrilling, with Roch taking the baton for the anchor leg in 4th place, a solid 10m back of the leader!  Since usually all the team have their best 400m runner in the anchor, passing three other teams is a tough proposition, and typically what happens is the runner behind works themselves up and then falters on home stretch when the other runners kick to the finish.  But not MV!  Roch caught the leaders on the second curve and came out of the Bowerman curve 🙂 and poured it on during the home stretch for the victory.  Afterwards, even the coach of the second place Los Gatos team came up to me and said ‘that was a great race–your guys just flat out beat us.’  That was truly a race to build upon!
The victorious 4x400m relay team.
As well as many PRs, there were several other top 3 podium finishes, including Jenny Xu (2nd Varsity Girls’ 3200m), Bridget Gottlieb (3rd Varsity Girls’ 3200m), Chris Ma (3rd Varsity Boys’ 300m hurdles), James Migdal (3rd Varsity Boys’ High Jump–only a freshman!–a freshman medalling in the varsity high jump hardly ever happens, this could really be something great to build upon over the next few years), Richelle Ju (3rd Varsity Girls’ High Jump), FS boys 4×100 relay 2nd, Anna Hsiao (2nd JV girls 1600m run), Albert Han (3rd in both FS 65m hurdles and FS 300m hurdles), Rochish Ambati (3rd FS 100m, 2nd FS 200m), Iraa Guleria (JV girls’ triple jump).
There will be quite a few Monta Vista athletes heading on to the SCVAL championships on Friday May 10 in Los Gatos; we will start to get the final list after the DAL completes their meet later today.
Also, early notice for those not competing at SCVALs–if you want to be able to get inside the oval to cheer, and you want to get into the track meet for free (there is a charge for entry), you may volunteer for the hurdle crew!  We need 10-15 volunteers to help out…the perks are free entry to the meet and also a pass to get you onto the infield!  All you need to do is move some hurdles, and unlike at Santa Clara we don’t even have to put the hurdles away afterwards–LG just leaves their hurdles out!  You cannot beat that deal!
