Nice job MVT&F!

On Wednesday May 7, the 2014 league track & field season ended with a strong showing by the Monta Vista team at the El Camino League Finals!  Monta Vista ended up taking home 49 top – 5 finishes compared to 38 in 2013.  First place winners included Emma Seyer–twice!–in the varsity discus and the shot, Bridget Gottlieb who won the varsity 3200 while setting a new meet record, Paru Meyyappan in the JV girls’ 3200, Max Sawyer in the frosh-soph boys’ 1600, Elizabeth Ngo in the JVG 300 hurdles, and Sai Ranganathan in the FSB 200.

Our varsity girls took 2nd overall in the league with 86 points, including a near sweep in the 3200m (1-2-3-4-6 for 29 of 31 possible points in one event!) and 30 points from the throwing events (girls who ran cross country in the fall ended up scoring 73 varsity points for the track team, a pretty amazing feat!).   The Monta Vista frosh – soph boys took home 3rd place with 78 points, and if not for a couple of unlucky injuries perhaps could have placed even higher.

A partial list of PRs and season bests recorded on Wednesday includes Julia Chang (3200m), Elizabeth Ngo (300h), Joanne Lai and Vincent Kao (400m), Anand Rao and Bennett Zhang (800m), Brad Hong (65m hurdles), our boys 4x100m relay team including Roch, Albert, Chatty and Donald, Neehar Kondapeni (HJ and LJ), Emma Seyer and Aarohi Palkar (discus), our varsity girls 4×100 team of Ava, Chloe, Giselle and Nicole, and Paru Meyyappan, Naama BenDavid and Isabel LaPlain in the 800m.  Congratulations to everyone!

Next up are the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League championships at Santa Clara on Friday, May 16.  We will know in the next few days who qualified to move on to that meet, so stay tuned!  Mark your calendar to come and cheer on your teammates, this is always a good meet and your teammates and friends will appreciate your support.  And remember, the best view and best place to cheer is with the hurdle crew inside the oval (which includes free admission!).  Sign up with coach for hurdle crew.
