Victorious Varsity Girls Team — Fifth Straight Win!

MVXC had a day of historic proportions at the Fremont Union High School District Championships at Lynbrook on October 29!

The Monta Vista girls won the FUHSD Championship for a record fifth year in a row!  The team was lead by Kelly Bishop’s third place finish and a total of five runners in the top ten, including two freshman–Claire Chang and Sarah Feng making valuable contributions to the varsity team.   Seniors Anna Hsiao and Namrata Subramanian rounded out the scoring five, as the team scored 34 points to easily outdistance second place Fremont, who tallied 75.

Monta Vista’s varsity boys made this a double-win as they pulled out a 14 point victory over second place Lynbrook!  The boys were paced by Brent Mogensen’s second place finish, yet the victory came due to team depth.  Monta Vista trailed after the first three runners from each team were in, 17-11, but Monta Vista’s four and five runners, Andy Ma and Jeffrey Xu, came in at 10 and 16 to pick up 20 points on the Lynbrook 4-5 finishers!  Bennett Zhang and Vamsee Vemulapalli both finished in the top ten with big PRs.  Both our boys and girls teams look primed for the SCVAL championships next Tuesday!

FUHSD Champion Boys’ Team!

Overall, Monta Vista runners recorded 49 personal records in this single day!  Highlights included Claire Chang and Sarah Feng slicing off more than 80 seconds each from their run at Lynbrook only four weeks earlier, and Isabella Chang and Maddy Yung also knocking off more than 30 seconds from their previous bests on the 2.1 mile Lynbrook course.  Among the boys, six had PRs of 30 seconds or more, including David Deng, Kendall Lin, Spencer Zou, Andy Ma, Victor Ho and Bennett Zhang.  Brent, Bennett, Andy and Vamsee all made the Monta Vista all-time list, and Kelly and Claire will have their names added to the girls’ list.  (Several girls were yelling about Claire’s two mile split, by the way!)  Another individual highlight was Sanjana Borle’s individual win in the JV girls race, followed by Megan Wang who gave Monta Vista a 1-2 finish on the way to a solid team victory.

The team looks great as we head towards SCVALs on Tuesday!

Senior Run

Friday saw our annual senior run, using the great new location at Hunters’ Point that our seniors selected…this is a really nice thing that our team does every year, and the seniors all spoke very well.  This is a good class, and the things that they learned and taught to the team will stick with everyone for a long time.  MVXC continues to evolve, and threads from this senior class will be a part of the fabric of the team for years.
