Monta Vista XC got back to racing at the Central Park race on Tuesday, September 23.

The Central Park course is pretty tame by XC standards–a flat course around a park in Santa Clara.  However, racing is still racing, a chance to get back out there and see what we have got in the tank–and MVXC has a lot in the tank!

All of the MV teams finished 8th or better, lead by a winning team effort by the Varsity girls.  Several runners made the

Monta Vista all-time list for the Central Park course, including Rohan Choudhury, Brent Mogensen, Jenny Xu, Julia Chang, Maddy Yip, Christina Jennings, Paru Meyyappan, Namrata Subramanian and Salma Sheriff–and quite a few others were within a minute of the all-time list, including freshmen Mike Sakellar, Akshara Majjiga and Megan Wang!

We did not run at CP last year, so only a few folks had chances for PRs and the PR success rate is not as meaningful.  Nevertheless, I think that almost everyone should be satisfied with their efforts.  I think we all raced well based on where we are.  Not only did we race well, we did a great job of supporting each other!–wherever we went on the course there were people in purple yelling for teammates.  Pretty awesome!

I saw lots of great sportsmanship from so many of us, from top to bottom–I noticed our varsity boys in particular saying good luck to the teams beside them.  The senior boys have been racing each other for the last four years, and they certainly know each other on the course and often outside of the running world too; it’s great to see that mutual respect and friendships have developed, too.

Complete race results are on-line at Hank Lawson’s site.

Photos from Mr. Ma and myself can be found at the team’s Picasa site.
