This note on the CCS web site says it all!

One of the parents volunteering at the Crystal meet sent us the photo of the boys greeting the finishers after the race; neither Coach Flatow nor Coach Johnson told the boys to do this or even knew that they were doing this, both of us were off on the course cheering.  We forwarded the photo with a short note about how proud we were of the boys to Principal Scott and some of the other administrators; Mr. Flores forwarded the photo and a short note to CCS, who then posted the photo.

Lots of times we do things when no one is watching, and those are some of the best things we do for ourselves and for those around us.  Champions are made when no one is watching (for example, all the off-season running).  And character is shown when no one is watching (how hard are you working when you are out on a run and the coach is not there).  Your actions will then show up in your performance.  But also…sometimes people are watching, and they really notice what you are doing.  What happened last Tuesday was a case where the boys did not realize that anyone was watching, yet they were being watched.  And we thought that what the boys were doing was remarkable!

You never know when people are watching, and you never know how and when your actions will be noted!

Great, great job you guys!  Your whole school is proud of you, and the way you represented yourselves, your team, your school, your families!  Your actions are a credit to the way you were brought up.  I hope the recognition by CCS will help you all realize how remarkable your actions can be.

Maybe we want to make greeting the finishers to be a regular thing for Monta Vista, just something that we do…whether we are having a good day or an average day.  Seeing a line of purple greeting finishers after races is not a bad thing to be known for!

Your coaches are really, really proud of all of you!
