Your correspondant is way, way behind with MVTF news.  I’m really sorry!  OK, so here is some short attention span news updates for the last two weeks…

Firebird Relays:  Monta Vista had many highlights at Fremont’s Firebird Relays on March 25.  Eliot Lubomirsky had an open 400 PR of 52.57, one of the fastest MV 400s in quite a while, and Akshara Majjiga got under 4:50 in the 1600 for a season best for her.  However, it was Monta Vista’s young triple jumpers who truly shined.  Sarang Deshpande, Pranav Pata and Khang Pham combined for a team total of 103’6.5″ to take third in the frosh-soph boys team competition, while Jessica Ji, Jasmine Lee and Cynthia Gong went 1-2-3 individually and captured the team crown while smashing the all-time meet TJ team record!  Congratulations to all.

Azusa Meet of Champions:  Also on March 25, MVTF distance runners traveled to SoCal to compete in the Meet of Champions.  Our athletes recorded several season and personal bests, with highlights including Jeffrey Xu’s first time under 10 for the 3200m, and big PRs for freshmen Triya Roy, Nitin Subramanian and Kyle Tsujimoto in the 1600m.  Also, coach would like to mention as always how proud I am to travel with this group…during the invitational boy’s mile race, we had 18 purple athletes running back and forth across the track cheering.  When the father of the boy who finished asked, ‘how did your athlete do?’, the answer was ‘oh, we didn’t have anyone in that race, we were just cheering!’  That is a demonstration of true joy in our sport and support for the track community.  Love it!

Dual Meet Monta Vista at Santa Clara:  OK, I admit it, it was frustrating how long it took to get results.  No sense assigning blame or being overly annoyed, it was not the Santa Clara coach’s fault (we get spoiled by Mr. Hank Lawson’s timing services).  Anyway…we still competed well.  Results are (finally) downloadable below and hopefully will be uploaded to athletic.net before too long.  Sigh.

The team highlight was the frosh-soph boys keeping their undefeated streak alive, they are now 4-0 with Cupertino coming up this week!

Stanford Invitational:  Monta Vista sent 12 athletes to compete in four relays and an individual race last weekend, March 31 and April 1.  This is the biggest number we have sent in years!  Our teams did very well, with both boys and girls DMR teams finishing 21 out of 30, and our 4×4 teams setting season bests with 31 and 32 place finishes out of about 40 teams.  This competition represents some of the best teams on the West Coast and our ability to compete with the best, in front of big crowds along with college athletes*, says a lot about how far our teams have come!  We have good momentum as we head towards the post season.

*Also competing at the Stanford Invitational was Emma Seyer, Monta Vista class of 2014, who is now a member of the UC Berkeley track and field team!  Emma took third place in the collegiate hammer throw competition, and came by to chat with MV after the meet.
