Argh!  Our home meet with Mountain View starts in a few hours and I have not written about our weekend yet.  This lack is driving me crazy, so I’m going to get something posted to relieve the stress and cross something off my list! 🙂

Roughly half of our team competed at either the Firebird Relays here in Fremont or at the Azusa Distance Classic Meet of Champions (MOC) over the weekend.  The atmosphere of a good invitational meet often spurs us to find new levels of performance that we did not know we had, and this weekend was no exception!  Again, we have another great list of PRs:  Eliot had a PR and a FS meet record in the 400m at Firebird, Derek Z also set a meet record in the FS triple jump,  Bennett PRed in the 3200m at MOC and got under 10 for the first time (huge!), Jeffrey had a 1600m PR, and so did Kingsley, Vamsee in the 800m, Jonathan had a 100m PR at Firebird, Brent got under 4:30 for the first time in the 1600m and currently has one of the top 10 times in the CCS, Arvind Piyush and Andy Ma all had 1600m PRs also, Derek L had his own 3200m PR, Aidan and Andy F in the 1600m, Shakthi in the TJ, Sanjana pushed her 3200m time down yet again, Cheryl in the 100m hurdles, Sarah Feng had a 3200m PR and has the fastest freshman girl marks in the CCS for both 1600m and 3200m distances this season, Sabrina had PRs in both the 100m and 300m hurdles, Isabelle had another MV PR in the 1600m, Reema and Cynthia both PRed in LJ and TJ at Firebird, Pallavi chipped in with a 300m hurdle PR, Anabel PRed in the discus while Rupali recorded a shot PR, and last but not least, Melinda had a 1600m PR!  WHEW!

If that seems like a long list…that is because it is a long list!

I think there are a few dynamics going on.  One is, we have a lot of hardworking athletes who come to practice and make the effort to improve themselves; they listen to their coaches and really work hard, they pick the hardest options during practice and perform day in, day out to the best of their abilities.  Next, they are willing to sign up for invitationals and put themselves out there–they are willing to take a risk to see what they are capable of accomplishing.  And third, the team members who are working with each other and encouraging each other during practice are also coming to the invites and creating an atmosphere of hard work and success.  All of this positive effort and success feeds on itself and becomes a team dynamic that will help everyone who wants to find out what they are capable of accomplishing.

It’s hard to pick out particular highlights from so many individual stories…but setting a couple of meet records is special!

There are photos of Firebird and MOC on line, and there are also complete results for Fremont and MOC.
