MVXC started October with a bang at the Artichoke Invitational in Half Moon Bay.

It was an unseasonably hot day in Half Moon Bay, which makes the statistics below even more impressive:

–MVXC scored 15 PRs at Artichoke, which is a good number for this time of year–last year we had 17.  Our team is right on track for this time of the season!  The PR honor roll includes Bridget, Jenny, Naama, Sanjna, Akshay, Alvin, Conner S, David, Ishmael, John, Justin, Michael T, Rohan, Vamsee, and Young.

–The team brought home 14 individual medals, around the necks of Brent, Max, Paru, Namrata, Kaylene, Sanjna, Isabel, Bridget, Jenny, Maddie, Kelly, Julia, Sunny and Rohan.  Bridget made the top 25 girls all-time at HMB–Monta Vista now has THREE of the top 25 girls all time on that course, including Jenny and also the legendary Jean Feng.

–As teams we performed well, with our Varsity Boys taking 7th out of 23 teams, the Frosh-Soph boys taking 5th of 24 teams, and the Frosh-Soph girls scoring 3rd of 17.  The headline team was the Varsity girls’ team, who won with 41 points compared to 102 for the second place squad.  The MV girls had six girls finish before any other team’s 4th runner!

–Julia Cho gets the spirit award for the day; Julia was everywhere on the course, cheering for everybody, on her own or with friends–nothing slowed Julia down.  Julia set the standard.  If everyone cheered like that, all our runners would have someone yelling for them every 50m!  Julia, you are the best.

–A special shout-out to Chloe Li and Steven Lim, who missed their races and still ran the course with Coach Matt after the meet was over.  And big props to Namrata and Paru who followed up their medal winning performance with PRs and age group wins in the SJRNR half marathon on Sunday–which the coaches don’t recommend, but we find to be amazing!

You all did awesome, as a team we are right where we want to be!

After the races, the team headed to Venice Beach, and thanks to the support of all the parents we were able to enjoy a fine evening on the beach with a spectacular sunset!

It was a pretty great day all around.
