Congratulations to all four Monta Vista girls who were chosen to the all-Mercury-News cross country team! Twenty-four girls from all around Santa Clara County were chosen, including four Monta Vista Matadors: Bridget Gottlieb (who was chosen for the first team!), Jenny Xu, Madeleine Yip and Kelly Bishop. No other team had more than two honorees, and Monta Vista had four! In addition, Monta Vista had a representative for every class–one senior, junior, sophomore and freshman–so the team is well positioned for years to come.
Cross country is a sport that rewards hard work, and every one of our ladies ran lots of miles to earn this honor. Success in distance running is never ‘luck’, success never comes only from talent. Success in distance running comes from work, and persistence, and determination to reach a goal. These girls all earned their honors. As a team, we should have pride in their awards also, as we all ran miles together and pushed each other to greater and greater successes.
