Monta Vista Cross Country had another great trip to Mt. SAC–bigger and better than ever before!
The Mt. SAC course is pretty special–it has been unchanged since the 1950s, with grandparents and grandchildren able to compare PRs across generations. Over the years, the Mt. SAC invitational has grown to over 20,000 athletes competing in one event, and we can find many Olympians with their names on the Mt. SAC record book. Running on this course in this race is a privilege.
We brought 38 athletes to Mt. SAC, more than ever before. Of 17 runners who were repeating the historic 2.93 mile course, 12 recorded PRs–a 70% success rate! And as a team, we recorded several major accomplishments, including:
–The first race championship ever won by an MV team at Mt. SAC (varsity girls team–Jenny, Julia, Maddy, Kelly, Anna, Namrata and Christina).
–The first podium finish by a non-Varsity team (3rd place by the freshman girls team–Megan, Akshara, Mizuki, Sabrina, Priscilla and Coco).
–The second fastest time every recorded by an MV boy at Mt. SAC (Rohan’s 16:04; Rohan completed an impressive career at Mt. SAC–he ran the course for four years at MV, and improved his time EVERY single year–that is a tribute to hard work and consistent focus!).
–The first time we had two athletes win races for the first time (Jenny in our varsity race, and Paru in our sophomore race). Winning any race is fantastic, but a cross country win is a rare and special treat.
–In total we brought back a lot of bling, two team plaques, two cowbells, and more than 20 medals in total!
Your coaches could not be prouder of all of you, as athletes and as people!
