MVXC athlete-lead summer training runs will meet at 7am and 6pm, Monday through Friday, at the Monta Vista High School track.  Summer group runs start on June 12!

Hello MVXC17!

Congratulations on finishing the school year, and congrats on what I’m sure have been successful final exams.  I know you are a hard working and focused group and I am confident you all did your best!

And now, I know…you are ready for some serious and seriously fun summer running!

This blog post will provide some basic information for new and returning MVXC athletes.  I will update this periodically as I get news about different training opportunities.  Check the ‘News’ posts I will make every couple weeks or so for more educational and inspirational posts.  I will try to keep this post brief and data dense so you can quickly review this and find the information you need to help you with your summer training.

Everyone is an athlete.  The only difference is that some of us are in training, and some are not. ~George Sheehan

I agree with Dr. Sheehan.  Take this to heart.  Every one of us has been given athletic bodies.  Some of these bodies are more athletically gifted than others, but every one of us has the ability to train and improve ourselves.  We all have that choice, whether to get the most out of our talent or not.  Let’s make a choice and a commitment, together, to train diligently this Summer and next Fall and find out how much we can improve.

Monta Vista Cross Country Group Runs:

MVXC athlete-lead runs will meet at 7am and 6pm, Monday through Friday, at the Monta Vista High School track starting on June 12 and continuing until regular practice starts on August 7.  Everyone is welcome; if you are an incoming freshman or a new runner already at Monta Vista, these runs are a good way to get started and meet some teammates.  Pace and distance will vary.  You may contact Sanjana Borle for more information at sanjana.borle@gmail.com.

Other Running Groups:

Many MVXC athletes join Mike Dudley’s cross country boot camp.  Coach Dudley runs a summer running program that is very consistent with the way MVXC trains.  You will be well prepared for the upcoming season, and you will meet more MVXC people and other dedicated runners from around the valley.  Highly recommended!  Contact Coach Dudley as soon as you can to get information and sign up at trackdudley@aol.com; mention that you are a Monta Vista runner!

Lynbrook High School also has summer running that is open to all and might be convenient for you.  You would meet some different people and it might be a change.  One or two people have tried this in the past.

Cross Training/Conditioning/Getting Help With Nagging Problems:

If you want to get some help with general strengthening and conditioning, or you have a nagging problem you want help to eliminate (sore hips or knees, pain in shins or Achilles, or any other nagging soreness or pain that you are experiencing, here are some contacts that might help.  There are obviously many providers but these are people that MVXC athletes have worked with successfully in the past.  Let them know you are with Monta Vista.

Chris Hallford:  Chris is the MAN when it comes to core strength development.  Work with him for six weeks and you have gone a long way towards developing your resistance to injury from running.  Chris also is great at massage and can help address some pain issues.  Plus, he has two cute little dogs.

Bree Lambert:  Bree is a multiple-time USA 100 mile trail race champion, so she knows a lot about both grit and cross training, and she can teach you both.  Several MVXC athletes have trained with her.  Bree is highly recommended both as a trainer and a person.  Super cool.

Irina Stiasny:  Local physical therapist who also volunteers with MVXC.  If you have a nagging issue, working with Irina this summer is a great idea; after two months of one-on-one sessions with Irina, she can monitor your progress when we return to group practice in August.

Doug Robinson:  Doug Robinson is a local podiatrist and runner who likes helping runners get back out on the trail.  He also is a SCVAL championship sponsor.
