On September 22, the Monta Vista Cross Country Team will be traveling to Stockton, California to compete in the University of the Pacific Tiger Invitational.  This will be the first time MVXC has competed in this event.  Now in it’s 9th year, the Pacific Tiger has developed a reputation as a well run and competitive event.  This is an opportunity for Monta Vista to race against some top teams from outside our section, who we don’t normally see at our races; last year St. Francis of Sacramento, San Ramon, Madeera, Bella Vista, Merced and others were their along with familiar CCS competitors such as St. Francis, Willow Glen and Mitty.  For most of our athletes this will be the first time running on a golf course.  In much of the country, golf courses are often pressed into service as cross country courses, but this is less common in California.  (I’ve been tempted to approach Deep Cliff or Blackberry Farm to see if they would let us lay out a course on their golf links but I have never followed through!  It would be kind of cool to have a Monta Vista home course, maybe we could host one of the SCVAL meets if anyone wanted to help make this happen!)
Another first–we have reserved buses for this trip.  We have used a bus for trips with half of our cross country team but never to take the entire team.  We are going to see how this works!
Here is the story:
Competing at the Pacific Tiger meet is required for all members of the Monta Vista Cross Country team.  Traveling with the team on the bus is not required; parents may opt to drive their athlete to Stockton.  If you would like to travel on the bus with the team (highly recommended–this will be fun as well as convenient!), you may purchase a ticket on the bus for $21 if you are a member of the Monta Vista Athletic Boosters (part of your Booster membership is being used to subsidize the bus cost).  If you are not a member of MVAB you may also purchase a higher cost ticket (but we would really rather you join MVAB).
If you have not joined MVAB yet, you can go to the Booster site and join now.
Once you have joined MVAB, you can go to the Monta Vista ASB store and order your ticket for the trip.
Please keep your receipt as your ticket and bring it with you on Saturday morning.
We have plenty of seats for everyone on the team…HOWEVER please order your seat now.  If there is low demand for the seats we may cancel one bus to save money.  So please  purchase your seat soon so we know whether we should keep both buses that we have reserved.
We also would like to have parents at the meet to cheer!   If some parents ride pool together, one of the nice things will be that you don’t need to get up so early.  After we have all the kids sign up, we may open up any excess seats for some parents (if you don’t mind getting up early and getting on a bus with a bunch of loud and sweaty athletes!).  Please let coach know if you are interesting in riding along with the team.
I think this will be a nice addition to our team experience.  There is something memorable about piling into a bus before dawn to travel for a competition with your team.  Not many people ever get that experience, their entire lives.  MVXC18 will get that opportunity!
